Tutorial - MSDS

Here are some sites about Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS):  Clicking on the link will open a new window in your browser.  Always return to this page to go to the next site.

  1. MSDS Overview: Read #7, a one-paragraph introduction to MSDS.
  2. MSDS Sheets: This is a concise listing of the information found on an MSDS. Looking this page over will make it easier to understand the information on the next site.
  3. ilpi.com: Go to the site. Click on "Quiz" near the top, read the information and answer the questions for each of the seven sections.
    1. You may want to refer to the sample MSDS sheet for benzoic acid you received to answer some of the quiz questions. It will probably be easier than moving back and forth between windows on the screen.
    2. You may want to refer to the sample MSDS sheet for benzoic acid you received to answer some of the quiz questions. It will probably be easier than moving back and forth between windows on the screen.
    3. After finishing this site, you should ask Mrs. Dziekanowski for the Using A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) worksheet and the related MSDS sheet.
    4. Finally, if you have the time, return to link #3, and click on "Fun Stuff." Follow the instruction to prepare an Unsafe Material Data Sheet (UMDS).
  4. MSDS at Cornell (Optional): This is an "extra" listing for your information. Search for sheets by a variety of criteria. If you ever need information on a specific chemical or product, this might be a good place to start. You might just want to take a quick look at it now.
